QUESTIONS

1. What traits characterize a good scientist? How does Pierre demonstrate these traits?
2. What was wrong with Pierre’s first dog food experiment?
3. What two mistakes did he make in his second experiment?
4. Which was the control dog and which the experimental in Pierre’s third attempt?
5. What kind of records did Pierre keep?
6. Why is it important to keep records?
7. Could you re-create Pierre’s experiment?
8. Why is repeatability important in science?

  1. A good scientist never gives up and makes logical conclusions and observations. Pierre demonstrates this by conducting several different experiments and thinks through his work and results.

  1. The first experiment was wrong because he only used one dog that was supposed to grow.

  1. The second experiment was wrong to because he used two different breeds of dogs and fed them different dog food.

  1. In Pierre’s third attempt Dog A was the dog that received the pills and Dog B received only food and water.

  1. Pierre kept photographic records.

  1. It is important to keep records because it helps prove your hypothesis right or wrong. It also shows how your experiment changed over time.

  1. I could recreate Pierre’s experiment because he was clear on what he did in the test.

  1. Repeatability is important because it shows the results are correct and true each time.
